1915: The First Six Months This article continues our series looking beyond the literature of the First World War and putting it into context. We look at the events which shaped the first six months on the Western Front, The Dardanelles, The Eastern Front and the War at Sea, including the sinking of the Lusitania. Literary Connections In this regular feature demonstrating how interconnected the war poets were, we focus on Julian Grenfell. Brooke & Grenfell W. Lawrance examines the background and legacies of these two distinguished war poets. Both died in the first half of 1915, at the age of 27; both had written poems which are now widely studied; both came from fairly privileged backgrounds. War Memorials In this issue we look at the war memorials in taplow, in particular the private memorial dedicated to Julian and Gerald Grenfell at Taplow Court. Poem and Poet The poem, May 1915, and its author, female poet Charlotte Mew. We look at aspects of her very sad and unhappy life.
